Our client Arbero's field is on prime-time TV: Quarks on the forest of the future.

Drones, AI and new tree species: the ARD science show Quarks explores how forests become resilient. The episode features Arbero, a forestry startup we support as engineering partner.

On June 11, 2026, German public broadcaster HR aired a Quarks episode that made us genuinely happy: "New paths, how do we make the forest fit for the future?", hosted by Thomas Ranft. It is about an ecosystem under pressure. The forest is expected to be a place of recreation and a supplier of raw materials, a climate saver and a habitat for countless species, while climate change, drought and pests take their toll.

The episode shows the ideas that are meant to make our forests more resilient: new tree species, drones and AI. And it shows why forests reduce stress. Researchers can now measure what happens in our brains along the way.

Why this episode stays with us

The episode also features Arbero, a startup for forestry and a client of ours. We had the privilege of supporting Arbero as an engineering partner during development, and we learned a lot about what technology has to look like when it needs to work in the forest, not in an office.

This is exactly the kind of work alm exists for: software for domains where reality is more complicated than the data model. A forest does not follow interface specifications. Digitizing forestry takes tools that can handle incomplete data, rough conditions and long time horizons. Trees grow in decades, not in sprints.

AI in the forest is not a PoC

When Quarks reports on drones and AI in the forest, that is not a distant vision for us, it is our clients' everyday reality. The interesting questions are the same as in every AI project we ship: Where does reliable data come from? What happens when the model is wrong? And who works with the result in the end, in the forest often people in rubber boots rather than behind GPUs.

The fact that this topic now reaches prime-time public television shows: the digitization of forestry is no longer a niche subject.

The episode is available in the ARD Mediathek. Congratulations to the Arbero team!
