Confidentiality, deadlines and legally sound documents: we build software for patent law firms and notary offices that professionals actually use, with AI and hosting in the EU.
Patent law and notarial work are fields where documents are the core business: examination reports, registers, contracts, legally sound output in Word and PDF. Here, manual routine eats into time that should go to advising clients.
With Patent Studio we built one of the first tools with AI features in production in patent law in the German-speaking region. For NotarPartner we are building the next generation of a B2B software product with its own templating engine.
Both run in environments where data protection and traceability are not negotiable.
With the opt-out from the Unified Patent Court, every affected patent needed its own decision, filing and signature. The firms' existing tools were not built for that. At notary offices, specialist software had aged so much technically that every new feature cost more than it was worth.
7,235 patents have gone through the opt-out process via Patent Studio, and 5 law firms use the tool actively. The successor platform for NotarPartner was in place after 6 months, from architecture to a working templating core.
In the real workflow, not as a demo. Patent Studio includes 4 AI use cases: a domain assistant with preconfigured contexts, a PDF analysis tool with OCR and vector search, a drafting tool for patent claims, and research and classification tools. All AI features are built so that sensitive client data stays under control. 5 law firms use the tool actively.
When the sunrise period started on March 1, 2023, every affected patent needed its own decision, filing and signature. The firms' existing tools were not built for that. Patent Studio covers the process end to end: with integration of the authorities' API, digital signatures by smart card and an auditable document trail. 7,235 patents have gone through the opt-out process via the tool.
For NotarPartner we built a custom templating engine based on Handlebars. The notary office team keeps working in a WYSIWYG editor. The engine compiles that content directly into Word and PDF documents; in the backend, LibreOffice handles Word generation. End-to-end tests with Playwright safeguard the output paths. Where documents are legally binding, behavior has to be reproducible. From architecture to a working templating core took 6 months.
“Introducing Patent Studio was a turning point for our firm. Saving more than a third of our time is not just a number. It is time we now invest in strategic advice for our clients.”
